The SMAS facelift has a more profound effect in comparison to the macs lift despite being a more invasive surgery.

In the SMAS face lift, the entire lower face is pulled up and the jowls are reduced, the neck is tightened, the sagging cheeks are lifted up and the mouth and nose lines are removed. The separation of the skin and the muscle layer is required to carry out the SMAS face lift. The fat that is present beneath the skin and muscle layer is known as SMAS and it is detached from the bone by making a cut near the ear.

The contouring of the face beneath the skin is carried out by the adjustment and alteration of the fat and muscle layer which is achieved by either folding, pulling or cutting the layers before restoring it in the bone. The layers are adjusted in such a way that the cheeks are slightly raised. After complete contouring of the face, the skin is placed back, excess skin cut off and the skin is stitched back.
