What is Botox and how does it work?

Botulinum toxin (Botox) is a natural purified protein that which temporarily relaxes facial muscles which are the cause of wrinkles and age lines. It can also be used to treat medical conditions such as hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Botox is safe and certified in both the medical and cosmetic field.

Fillers

What are Fillers and how do they work?

As we age, our cells lose their ability to produce more of their youthful compent and the natural collagen and elastin in the skin is reduced as a result. As a countermeasure, dermal fillers can make a noticable difference to one's appearance by adding volume, lifting and smoothening the targeted areas. Wrinkles will also be diminished through this process.

Discomfort during the injection is minimal as the treatment does not take long to perform. The aesthetic results from dermal fillers are seen immediately after the treatment and no scarring occurs.

What type of Fillers can be used?

Restalyn – Is a form of hyaluronic acid used for more superficial wrinkling but can also be used for overall filling of deeper winkles and to build volume. The effects of Restylane injections usually last about six months.

Juvederm – Juvederm products are a smooth consistency gel, compared to some hyaluronic gel products that have a granular consistency. This dermal filler is used to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as the nasolabial folds. It can also be used to plump up lips, and reduce acne scarring. Juvederm is offered in different formulations, including Ultra and Ultra Plus. Juvederm Ultra is Allergan's version of a highly linked hyaluronic acid (HA) filler that competes with Restylane; it is most frequently used to fill superficial lines and can last 8-12 months.

Radiesse – is a synthetic material made up of calcium hydroxyapatite (30%) suspended in a cellulose gel carrier (70%). Because Radiesse is a thicker substance it's used for deeper wrinkles rather than superficial ones. Radiesse is considered a semi-permanent filler.

Belotero Balance – a hyaluronic acid type filler that's a multi-purpose filler due to its ability to adapt within the skin for soft and even correction. Its softer, more malleable texture means it can be used to treat several areas of concern, including nasolabial folds, vertical lip lines and lines at the mouth corner.

Sculptra – is not technically a filler because it does not add volume but rather stimulates collagen production in the areas where it is injected. Sculptra is a synthetic filler derived from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) which is distantly related to alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). It can be used for wrinkles and indented, “ice pick”-type acne scars as well as for general improvement in facial depressions especially where fat loss is problem. Results are not immediate and usually require multiple, biweekly treatments to obtain the desired improvement and then routinely to maintain the appearance.
